Isle of Wight County Fair

Yesterday morning dawned clear and cool, sunny without a cloud in the sky. A perfect day to go to a fair. Each fall we look forward to spending an afternoon wandering around the Isle of Wight County Fair, and this year was no different.

The fair organizers always do such a great job of creating a rural, farm-y feel for fair goers as they walk around looking at all the prize-winning produce, preserves, pies and livestock.

The quilt tent is always a favorite of mine and I was thrilled to see my friend Cathy won a blue ribbon for her gorgeous quilt!

Of course I am always drawn to the livestock tents. We had such a good time petting all the 4-H goats, cows, rabbits and even saw a pot belly pig.

And then it was on to the poultry tent. There were some beautiful ducks and geese...

But it was the roosters who stole the show!

A quick stop for ice cream, and then we headed home. The fair was such fun, as always, but since we are well aware of how easily viruses and other pathogens can be transmitted from the poultry at the fair to our flock, we made sure to wash up and change our clothing and shoes before heading down to spend some time with our own chickens!
