Raisins are toxic to dogs and cats, but oddly enough, they are not harmful to chickens. But, they still should only be fed in moderation.
Can Chickens Eat Raisins?
Chickens can eat raisins. But, like other dried fruit, raisins are a source of very concentrated fruit sugar which can lead to obesity and other health issues in chickens.
It's also believed that eating too many raisins can cause kidney issues, including kidney failure, if eaten in excess.
Raisins are also a potential choking hazard for smaller breeds of chickens and baby chicks, so care should be taken when feeding them to smaller birds.
Chopping up and soaking raisins is one way to feed them that's a bit safer.
All that said, raisins do contain lots of fiber, calcium, magnesium, iron, and potassium. They are also a source of antioxidants.
As with other treats, in total they should not exceed 10% of your flock's total diet, which equals only about 1 or 2 tablespoons per bird per day.
