Can Chickens eat Watermelon?

Watermelon is one of the best summer treats for chickens, providing them essential hydration as well as beneficial nutrients on a hot day.

Watermelon is one of the best summer treats for your chickens. Its high water content helps keep them hydrated on hot summer days.

Can Chickens eat Watermelon?

Chickens can eat all parts of the watermelon including the flesh, seeds, and rind.

Although watermelon is mostly water, it also contains Vitamins A, B6 and C, magnesium, and potassium. And it's a great source of carotenoids which make nice orange egg yolks

Watermelon also is a great source of cucurbitacin, like cucumbers and other types of squash, which is thought to be a natural wormer for poultry.

Watermelon also works as an antioxidant which can help to prevent cancer and heart disease. In fact, watermelon has the highest levels of the antioxidant lycopene compared to any other food.

You can simply cut the melon in half and let your chickens have at it, or you can scoop out balls for them. You can slice it.... they're not picky. They'll love it not matter how you serve it.

If you're feeling ambitious, you can even make your flock some Watermelon Slushies
