Fresh Breath, Shiny Coat Homemade Natural Dog Treats

in ,
These natural dog treats will help with shiny coats and fresh breath.

It's been awhile since I've made a batch of homemade dog treats.  I love making my own treats for our animals because I know exactly what goes into them, and like with our chickens, I want to feed our other pets only the best, most natural diets.

To help welcome our new corgi Winston into our family, I decided to make a batch of treats for both Winston and Bella, our German shepherd.

This recipe combines the breath freshening and digestive attributes of mint and parsley with the antioxidants in blueberries. The molasses provides energy and calcium, while our fresh eggs provide essential fatty acids that improve a dog's coat and skin, as well as building strong eyes, bones and internal organs.

The peanut butter adds lots of protein and dogs love the taste. Natural unsalted peanut butter is best to use.

I created this recipe using a few different recipes for dog treats I found online, incorporating ingredients I had on hand. The real test will come when my furry taste testers try them.

Fresh Breath, Shiny Coat Homemade Natural Dog Treats

(makes approximately 2 dozen treats)
What you Need |

1 Cup Peanut Butter
1/2 Cup Coconut Oil
1 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
1/2 Cup Old-Fashioned Oats
1/4 Cup Wheat Germ
4 Fresh Eggs
2 Tablespoons Blackstrap Molasses
1/4 Cup Chopped Dried Blueberries
1/4 Cup Chopped Fresh Mint
1/4 Cup Chopped Fresh Parsley

What you Do |

Mix all ingredients in a large mixing bowl with a wooden spoon or spatula until well combined.  Roll out on a floured surface and cut into shapes of your choice.

I used a bone-shaped and a heart-shaped cookie cutter to make the treats, but you can use any shape you wish, even the rim of a small glass will work.

Arrange on an ungreased baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.  Cool.  Refrigerate any extras and dispense as needed for happy, healthy puppies.

As you can see, these treats were a big hit with both Winston and Bella.  And yes, I did taste one and they are actually pretty good! Healthy for humans too.
